What Americans are being told about holidaying in Ireland this summer as US travel list updated

July 8, 2022 by GFT Reporter

Americans have been given a fresh warning not to travel to Ireland as Joe Biden’s administration issued new advice to citizens.

The country has been badly affected in parts due to the coronavirus.

But with the majority of the world now beginning to open up its borders, more and more people are being allowed have a holiday or travel internationally.

The EU Digital Covid Cert allows Europeans to travel freely, but the US hasn’t followed suit just yet.

On Monday, the US updated its travel advice for a number of countries – including Ireland.

But it’s bad news for those Stateside who are hoping to visit the Emerald Isle this year.

The latest update reads: “Do not travel to Ireland due to COVID-19.

“Read the Department of State’s COVID-19 page before you plan any international travel.

“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 4 Travel Health Notice for Ireland due to COVID-19, indicating a very high level of COVID-19 in the country.

“There are restrictions in place affecting U.S. citizen entry into Ireland.

“Visit the Embassy’s COVID-19 page for more information on COVID-19 in Ireland.”

Meanwhile, an Irishman returning from his holidays in Spain had an emotional flight back to Dublin that he is still thinking about weeks later.

Caolan Mc Aree was on a flight home from Malaga a few weeks ago when he noticed a couple in their late 70s sitting near him on the almost empty flight.

He observed that around one hour into the flight, the woman “appeared to become agitated, shouting and trying to get out of her seat while the man was trying to calm and reassure her”.
