Traverse City Wineries to be Episode of International Wine Show

July 22, 2022 by Kelly Dionne

Traverse City and its wineries are about to get some international love. The television show Wine First is in Michigan shooting a segment for an upcoming episode and it’s all Pure Michigan.

A Norwegian-based production company responsible for the series, in its second year, has been in northern Michigan over the past week shooting an installment for the upcoming season. Wine First airs on PBS and features two European sommeliers that join a food writer to evaluate wines and find fresh local ingredients for a dish to pair with the wines.

For a show that focuses on the best of the best when it comes to wines, heading to Traverse City was a no-brainer. The production team will focus on a few of the most popular wineries in the northern Michigan area for the episode.  Hosts & Sommeliers Liora Levi, Maya Samuelson along with food enthusiast Yolanda Ano focused on the wines of Chateau Chantal, Bry’s Estate, and Black Star Farms. The Grand Traverse Resort and Spa’s head chef, Austin Minnich, was in charge of finding the right food to pair with the wines for the episode.

So far it’s been apparent that the hosts were just as impressed with the Michigan wines just as much as we are.

“This show recognizes and appreciates our region as an equal to some of the top European wine regions,” said Marie-Chantal Dalese of Chateau Chantal. “Every indication from the hosts is that they were fully impressed not just with the wines, but also the natural beauty of the region.”

You’ll be able to catch the Traverse City featured segment later this year on PBS here in the U.S. with the episode also getting some international play as well.
