For some, this is a welcome change of pace, but other companies are still struggling to find enough staff to meet the travel demand.
“As pretty much all other industries we’re all looking for employees right now. We are staffed to handle the operations that we have, but we want to plan for when those passengers do continue to return,” Tiana O’Connor, communications manager at Rochester International Airport, said.
The increase in demand wasn’t completely unexpected, and local Rochester transportation companies say they did their best to prepare – even with a smaller staff.
“Yeah, we definitely saw it coming. We were able to look at advance bookings for our service and make some projections on what we were going to need to do to be able to meet that demand,” Jason Deitz, marketing director at Groome Transportation, said.
Groome Transportation has buses and shuttles all over the country, and it says that some areas were hit harder by staffing issues than others. While they are still hiring in Rochester, the situation isn’t dire.
“We’re excited for what’s to come. People are getting vaccinated, restrictions are easing on travel, and people are ready to get back out there,” O’Connor said.
Mostly, travel companies in Rochester are just excited to be useful again.
