More than three-quarters of Americans, 77%, plan to take a trip this summer, many for the first time since the start of the pandemic, according to a new Harris Poll released Thursday.
The survey conducted for the Let’s Go There coalition of 75 travel companies represents a stark one-year turnaround from a similar June 2020 poll, which found that just 29% of Americans planned summer leisure travel.
And it indicates a coming surge in domestic travel, the coalition said.
“We’ve got a long way to go but are very enthusiastic about domestic travel and the summer season coming up,” said Roger Dow, president of the U.S. Travel Association and a member of the coalition.
The poll also found that two-thirds of Americans have a summer trip either already planned or booked. And more than half of those will be traveling for the first time since the start of the pandemic.
