Federal officials expect massive surge in U.S. travel this summer – WPXI

July 8, 2022 by GFT Reporter

WASHINGTON, D.C. — More than a year after the COVID-19 pandemic limited travel within the U.S., Americans are regaining the confidence to hit the road and take to the sky.

New data from the Transportation Security Administration shows agents screened more than 1.6 million people at airports across the country on Sunday.

That’s nearly 10 times more than the same day one year ago.

TSA numbers also show the volume of travelers has steadily increased in recent weeks.

“We expect passenger values to rise significantly throughout the summer. Memorial Day is the official kickoff of the summer travel season,” said Dan Velez, TSA spokesman.

If you are planning to fly this summer, remember to pack your face mask.

The TSA has extended its mask mandate until at least September 13.
