Gladys Marie Parmer Sweigard, Halifax, died at Viva Assisted Living in Harrisburg at the age of 101 on September 24, 2022.
She lived formerly in Halifax.
She was born on February 7, 1921 to the late Professor Preston and Dora (Lubold) Parmer in Kylertown, PA.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Mildred Parmer Ruth and Ruth Parmer Umholtz, and her husband Russell Sherwood Sweigard.
She attended Williamstown Elementary School, Lebanon Valley College, and graduated from Halifax High School. She and her husband, Russell, owned and operated Sweigards General Store in Matamoras.
Gladys was a Sunday School teacher in the former Matamoras Church of God. She was a painter and creator of sculptured apple dolls, and a substitute school teacher.
She was a member of the Halifax Historical Center, Millersburg Art Association, and a life member of the Halifax Alumni Association.
Surviving are daughters Lynnette (Jim) Schlegel and Cindy (Jay) Tobias both of Halifax, five grandchildren Rodney (Holly) Schlegel, Tina (John) Murphy, Sheri (Nathan) Hatalla, Brandi (Ryan) Kinnear, and Jenna (Chris) Tobias, eleven great grandchildren Robin Schlegel, Ryan Schlegel, Gillian Murphy, Russell Murphy, Addision Hatalla, Jack Hatalla, Corey Attivo, Cody Attivo, Conner Tobias, Savannah Tobias, and Aliyah Tobias, four great great grandchildren Caleb, Skye, Jayden, and Alexa.
She enjoyed traveling in their RV, camping, singing, craft shows, hiking, bicycling, and hunting.
The family received friends on Friday, Sept. 30, at Hoover-Boyer Funeral Home, Ltd. — Millersburg from 10 to 11 a.m. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m., with burial in Long’s Cemetery, Halifax.
