The Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) has written a letter directed to the American President, Joe Biden, urging the United States of America to open its doors for the European citizens.
The act follows Biden’s decision to keep in place the travelling restrictions for Europeans due to the Delta variant of Coronavirus infection rates across the European continent, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
According to the senior figures at APEX, President Biden should work on a “staged reopening of the United States for vaccinated international travellers, beginning with Europe, effective immediately.”
This letter, signed by key figures at APEX – CEO, Dr Joe Leader and COO, Russ Lemieux, Lauren Costello, executive director, and the US policy director, Michael Taylor – points out scientific points from the Biden administration to support its proposal.
These points indicate that every European country currently blocked by the US has significantly lower COVID-19 infection rates than the USA.
The letter also notes that the US Centre for Disease Control (CDC) regulates that those who have received both shots of an FDA-authorised vaccine or a vaccine approved for emergency use by the World Health Organization are allowed to travel safely within the United States.
APEX also noted that permitting the European travellers to the US only strengthens the administration’s message, which says that vaccination provides more freedom. However, the association supports additional testing requirements for vaccinated travellers.
Moreover, the US is advised to act quickly or expect the same measures to apply for its citizens since the President of the European Commission, Ursula von Leyen, recently noted that the US’s travel restrictions must not drag on for weeks.
However, currently, European countries do not intend to ban Americans, despite the latter’s persisting ban on Europeans and the mismatching reciprocity politics.
“We implore you to use your power as President to immediately enable Europe as a test of your administration’s proposed vaccinated international travel programme for foreign nationals. Our airlines are ready, our European travellers are ready,” the letter notes, saying divided families decide to be rejoined and make up for the lost time.
As SchengenVisaInfo.com reports, the US government has advised its citizens against travel to France and Iceland since the countries have recently witnessed a spike in Coronavirus infection rates, despite implementing a fast and effective vaccination campaign.
The World Health Organisation data shows that 620 deaths were registered in the US in the last 24 hours, whereas 141,652 people were infected with Coronavirus. Since the pandemic struck, the US has reported 614,267 deaths related to COVID-19, and 36,099,344 people tested positive for the disease.
