Visit The Rocky Coast of Bar Harbor, Maine
The town of Bar Harbor, Maine is a New England delight. The beauty of the town and the adjacent Acadia National Park is filled rocky coastlines, sandy beaches, and mountains topped with lush evergreen trees. Cadillac Mountain is the highest peak on the east coast and is perfect for hiking and spectacular views. For other recreation opportunities, the town and park offer birdwatching, boating, horseback riding, rock climbing and much more. For beachgoers, Jordan Pond and Sand Beach Park are great locations for a relaxing day in the sun.
See Marine Wonders at the Florida Barrier Reef
The State of Florida has the only living coral barrier reef in the continental United States. This amazing reef stretches from the Florida Keys out to the Marquesa Keys and is the third largest coral barrier reef system in the world. About two thirds of this reef are located within Biscayne National Park and the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, so you will see an abundance of plant and wildlife. During your visit, be sure to stop in at the Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center to learn all about native marine life and plants of the Florida Keys.
Climb on Sand Mountains in Colorado
You will feel like you are on the sand dunes of Mars at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve in Colorado. At the park, climb and conquer the mighty Star Dune, which is 750 feet tall. Besides the dunes, guests can also ride horseback, go sand boarding, or take a dip at the swimming hole at Medano Creek. The park is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with no outdoor capacity limits and no reservations are required for a visit.
Relax in the Mist at Multnomah Falls
This little slice of paradise is located just outside of Portland, Oregon. This beautiful spot is located inside Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. Visitors can hike the area to Benson Footbridge and get very close to the marvelous rushing water. Besides hiking, visitors can also enjoy picnicking, horseback riding, tubing, swimming, windsurfing, fishing and much more. The best time to visit Multnomah Falls is early morning and, in the rain, to avoid the usual crowds. Bicycle tours of Multnomah Falls are offered mornings and afternoons from Pedal Bike Tours Portland.
Marvel at the Sea Caves on Kauai
The Hawaiian Islands have many stunning locations, however, the locations here are unique. On the northwest side of Kauai is the Na Pali Coast State Wilderness Park. This 15 mile stretch of road has waterfalls, impressive sea caves and cliffs as high as 4,000 feet above sea level. Along this journey, you can see quite a bit of Hawaii’s wildlife including naïve birds such as Laysan Albatrosses, sea turtles, and even Hawaiian Monk seals. Reservations are required to hike on The Kalalau Trail or for camping permits and can be made up to 30 days in advance.
Snorkel the Coral Reef in American Samoa
This Pacific territory of the United States has a multitude of natural wonders. American Samoa consists of five islands and two atolls, which Americans can access without a passport. All you must do is fly into the capital city of Pago Pago and get to these wonders. There is spectacular snorkeling in Fagatele Bay at the National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa. Other water activities available here are diving, fishing, and surfing. You can take a boat ride out for a visit to Aunu ‘u Island and explore the marine sanctuary on this volcanic island. Besides the beach, visitors can also go on rainforest hikes and humpback whale watching cruises.
